Green Left proposes clear rules on AI ‘deepfake’ videos

After the Danish People’s Party shared an AI-generated deepfake video of a fake press conference with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Green Left’s tech spokesperson, Lisbeth Bech-Nielsen, suggests that the Parliament’s Presidency should establish common guidelines for the use of such videos. Bech-Nielsen welcomes satire but expresses concerns over the technology’s potential as a ‘major democratic problem’. To prevent misuse representing the people’s democracy, she proposes a mutual agreement among parliament parties to refrain from using deepfakes. While the Danish People’s Party indicated the video was AI-generated, concerns arise due to the increasing difficulty in distinguishing authentic from manipulated content. Additionally, a study by Verian for TrygFonden reveals that one in three citizens fear that artificial intelligence could damage democracy, particularly during political elections.
