Stores Waive VAT on Fruits and Veggies

Coop Denmark’s chain 365discount and Lidl have announced initiatives to promote healthier eating habits by removing VAT on fruits and vegetables. From January 25-31, 365discount will not charge VAT on these items. Lidl offers a similar discount for the whole month of February for Lidl Plus customers including sale items. These measures aim to combat the increasing inflation affecting consumers’ choice of healthy foods. 365discount’s initiative also serves as a call to action for politicians to consider a permanent reduction in VAT rates on these goods to influence consumer choices and support healthier diets. In 2022, a similar VAT reduction by 365discount led to a significant increase in the sale of fruits and vegetables.
