Minister critiques pride’s political demands

Danish Equality Minister Marie Bjerre has criticized Copenhagen Pride for evaluating potential partners based on their positions regarding the Israel-Gaza conflict, calling it ‘grotesque’ and potentially undermining the struggle for freedom and diversity. She refuses to participate in Pride events if such demands persist. Copenhagen Pride had shown solidarity with the Palestinian people, which influenced partner selection. However, Pride’s chairperson Lars Henriksen clarified that their solidarity is with civilians of both Palestine and Israel, not with any government. Copenhagen Pride, which is also a human rights demonstration, regularly sets requirements for partners. Whether Bjerre will engage with Copenhagen Pride in the future depends on the nature of responses the organization deems satisfactory from potential partners.
