Proposal to allow 17-year-olds to drive solo
The Danish government is set to propose allowing 17-year-olds to drive cars alone during limited hours, according to TV 2. The proposal, to be presented by Minister for Rural Districts Morten Dahlin, will permit these young drivers to operate vehicles unaccompanied, provided it’s between 05:00 and 20:00, with a strict zero-tolerance policy toward alcohol consumption. This move is part of a wider initiative aimed at improving conditions and mobility in rural districts where transportation options for youth, especially those far from educational institutions, are scarce. Jesper Kronborg from Dansk Erhverv supports the change, emphasizing the need for good transport options to maintain active lives in rural areas. Meanwhile, the Denmark Democrats party argues that the age limit should be lowered to 16 to accommodate even younger students who face mobility challenges.
