Sale of Babboe cargo bikes halted in Denmark

Babboe has suspended the sale of its cargo bikes in Denmark due to concerns from the Dutch food and consumer safety authority (NVWA) about missing safety approval documentation. Danish riders are advised to stop using Babboe bikes. NVWA has issued a recall for models with ‘serious safety risks,’ following their investigation into the company’s failure to address multiple complaints about broken frames. Jon Christiansen of Scandipartner, Babboe’s Danish dealer, has been in contact with the Danish Safety Technology Authority regarding these concerns. Previously, in 2019, defects in the ‘City’ model led to a recall. Despite no reported safety issues in Denmark, Babboe has ceased sales as a precaution and might recall certain models after discussions with NVWA. The Dutch authority has warned that damaged frames could lead to severe injuries, especially in traffic. There is potential for a criminal investigation. Babboe claims the largest selection of electric cargo bikes in Denmark on its website.
