Today’s news / Few food stores anticipate price cuts
Prices of food and beverages in the country's stores fell in the last part of 2023 and the beginning of 2024. But since then, the trend has reversed, and prices were higher in August this year than in the same month the year before. (Archive photo). Photo: Signe Goldmann/Ritzau Scanpix

Few food stores anticipate price cuts

There is little expectation among Danish supermarkets for a price reduction in the near future with only 2% of food and beverage businesses predicting lower prices in the next three months, according to the Statistics Denmark’s business confidence survey for September. From June 2023 to March this year, an average of 48% of companies had expected to decrease prices, which did experience a slight drop during autumn and winter, notes Brian Friis Helmer from Arbejdernes Landsbank. However, prices in August were 1.8% higher compared to the same month in 2023, though they did drop by 0.4% from the previous month after five months of consecutive increases. Currently, 89% of food, beverage, and tobacco companies expect prices to remain unchanged. While few food retailers predict price drops, 20% of car dealerships anticipate lowering their prices, an increase from 8% in August.
