Zirkus Nemo bankrupt after Covid and wet summer

Zirkus Nemo has been declared bankrupt, as announced by founder Søren Østergaard. The reasons stated include financial repercussions of the COVID pandemic and a particularly wet summer leading to severe water damage. Financial reports reveal a deficit of 869,000 DKK for 2022/2023, following a loss of nearly 1.6 million DKK the previous year, and a negative equity of over three million DKK. Sales did not reach pre-Covid levels after restrictions were lifted, contributing to the financial struggles. Before the pandemic, the company had achieved a profit of around 685,000 DKK in 2018/2019. Established in 1999 by Søren Østergaard and journalist Anders Lund Madsen, Zirkus Nemo marked its 25th anniversary with a special show in 2024 despite the financial difficulties and relocation of this year’s performance due to weather-induced safety concerns.
