MobilePay enables transfers to Nordic neighbors

MobilePay has introduced a new feature allowing users to transfer money to people in Norway and Finland. Anette Bøje, the Danish country manager for Vipps MobilePay, aims to provide the simplest and most user-friendly payment solution in the Nordic countries. While MobilePay is used in Finland, the Vipps app is used in Norway. A fee of 4% of the transferred amount will be charged for cross-border transactions, with possible additional currency conversion charges from the user’s bank, similar to using a debit card abroad. Receiving money will be cost-free. Sweden will be included later this year with access to the Vipps app. This move is a step towards linking the Nordic countries more closely, making it easier to split bills or send gifts. Users were consolidated onto a singular platform in March after the merger of MobilePay and Vipps in 2022. The feature is now available to collectively 11.6 million users across the three countries.
