Slight uptick in home-buying interest

Interest in buying homes in Denmark remains low but increased slightly in April. Mortgage loan offers rose by 7%, totaling 13,208, as reported by Finans Danmark. Ane Arnth Jensen, the vice director of Finans Danmark, mentions a 16-month decrease in interest for mortgage loans prior to April. The continued low interest levels, relative to 2022, are attributed partly to higher interest rates, which suppress the incentive to borrow. Many homeowners opted for loan restructuring in 2022, a trend that has decreased in 2023 and 2024. Brian Friis Helmer from Arbejdernes Landsbank sees potential for further loan offer increases if more borrowers restructure loans, which would require a drop in the stable 4-5% rates of fixed mortgage loans; a change not anticipated soon.
