Danish Foreign Minister inaugurates Moldova embassy

Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen travels to Moldova to open a new Danish embassy, highlighting Denmark’s commitment to supporting Moldova’s European Union ambitions. Denmark has been developing stronger diplomatic ties with Eastern EU neighboring states, particularly Moldova, since the Russian aggression in Ukraine. EU leaders started discussions about Moldova’s potential membership in 2023. Moldova has sheltered more refugees per capita than any another country, receiving hundreds of thousands from Ukraine. The Danish government, reversing a trend of cuts in foreign service, plans to establish new embassies, including in Moldova by 2024. Rasmussen emphasizes the embassy’s role in aiding Moldova’s EU accession reforms. Denmark is now diplomatically present in all frontline states bordering conflict-ridden Ukraine and will support Moldova with 44 million kroner for initiatives in equality, environmental sustainability, and democratic progress.
