Novo Nordisk turns to air freight amid port strike

Due to a significant port strike in the United States, Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk is considering air freight to transport its products. The company has contingency plans to avoid disruption caused by the strikes, affecting major ports handling 91% of imported medicines in containers. Novo Nordisk expects minimal or manageable impact from the strike with its air transport plan. The U.S. market is crucial for the company, known for diabetes drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy, which are currently under scrutiny in the U.S. for high pricing. The port worker union ILA and the employer group USMX failed to agree on a new contract, leading to the strike. The economic loss from the closed ports could reach up to 25 to 30 billion Danish kroner per day. The strike affects 36 ports and disrupts the flow of various goods, including medical supplies.
