School kids’ PC use violates law

Schoolchildren’s personal information is shared with Google through their student computers, some uses of which conflict with legislation. The Danish Data Protection Agency ruled on Tuesday that 53 municipalities must comply with regulations by August 1st, and present their plans by March 1st. The decision follows a complaint made by a parent in 2019 about his child’s information appearing on YouTube. The agencies have investigated the use of Chromebooks and Google Workspace in schools, resulting in the mandate for municipalities to ensure all data processing is legally justified. The local government association, KL, expressed disappointment at the lack of a final decision but is working towards a resolution with Google and the state.
