Errors in 90 percent of private rental income taxes
The Danish Tax Ministry reported that in 2024, the Tax Agency found errors in 93% of cases regarding income from the rental of items like cars, homes, and boats through digital platforms. Due to these errors, there was a record issuance of tax assessments totaling about 21 million kroner. Tax Minister Rasmus Stoklund stated the necessity for improvement, as everyone should follow the rules and pay their due taxes. While income information is often transferred automatically to citizens’ annual statements, in some instances, individuals must report the income themselves, increasing the risk of mistakes or tax evasion. Since 2020, over 5000 checks have been conducted, with around 1200 in 2024 alone. Continuous efforts are being made to provide guidance, including updates on the skat.dk website, to help citizens pay the correct tax.
