Danish artist Johnny Madsen dies at 73
Musician and artist Johnny Madsen has passed away at 73 after a long illness, as confirmed by his family to Ekstra Bladet. He died at his home on Fanø island. Madsen was hospitalized due to a broken collarbone and had stepped back from his music career, feeling weary of touring life. His son described him as a man who lived a rock’n’roll lifestyle to the end. Known for hits like ‘Færgemand’ and ‘Udenfor sæsonen,’ Madsen decided against performing in 2024. He had deep roots on Fanø, where he also ran his own gallery. Colleague and friend Lars Lilholt and Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen paid him heartfelt tributes. Madsen was also recognized for his wit and personal freedom advocacy, often enjoying a cigarette and a drink after shows. He experienced private sorrow, including the loss of a daughter to epilepsy, which inspired his song ‘Aldrig mere’.
