New deal may strip early pensions from criminal bikers

Members of motorcycle gangs and organized crime groups in Denmark will now face the possibility of losing their early retirement, senior, or Arne pensions for five years if convicted of serious crimes. This decision stems from an agreement between the government and four opposition parties. In fall 2024, 146 gang-affiliated individuals received senior or early pensions, equating to 11% of all such members in Denmark, sparking proposals for these changes. Employment Minister Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen announced this as a new measure to curb welfare abuse. Moreover, the existing sanction scheme extends from three to five years, affecting those convicted of serious economic and drug-related crimes. The Ministry of Employment estimates the new sanctions will impact around 200 individuals yearly by 2035, yielding annual state savings exceeding 25 million kroner.
