A senior Indian diplomat has been expelled from Canada in the case of the murder of a Sikh leader in exile, Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said in a statement. “Allegations that a foreign government representative may have been involved in the murder of a Canadian citizen here in Canada on Canadian soil are totally unacceptable,” Joly said. “That is why today we have expelled a senior Indian diplomat from Canada,” she said, without naming the diplomat.
According to AFP, Canada is investigating “credible allegations” that Indian agents may have played a role in the killing of a Sikh leader in June near the city of Vancouver, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Monday. “Over the past few weeks, Canadian security services have been actively pursuing credible allegations of a potential link between Indian government agents and the killing of Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar,” Trudeau said, adding: “The protection of our citizens and the defence of our sovereignty are fundamental.”
