Canadian diplomats in India have received threats, and therefore an unknown number are to leave the country. “After some diplomats received threats on various social media, Canada’s Global Affairs Department has been considering the number of employees in India,” the Canadian diplomatic mission said. The announcement comes around the same time that India on Thursday closed processing visa applications from Canadians. Relations between Canada and India are strained after Canada accused India of involvement in the killing of a Sikh leader. He was shot outside a Sikh temple in the Canadian state of British Columbia on June 18. Hardeep Singh Nijjar was a Khalistan separatist seeking independence for a Sikh state. At the time of his assassination, he was president of the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia and was a Canadian citizen. /ritzau/
