Politiken editor to head Danish Film School

Kristoffer Hegnsvad, the film editor at Politiken since 2013, is set to become the rector of The Danish Film School starting from the new year, as announced in a press release. He replaces Tine Fischer who resigned in May to become the director of The Danish Film Institute. Fischer’s term as rector started in 2021 after a turbulent period at the school under Vinca Wiedemann, who resigned following student protests over academic-focused teaching and staff issues. Hegnsvad, a regular guest lecturer at the film school and a creator of several films including the Robert-award nominated documentary ‘Soviet Bus Stops,’ will assume his new role on January 1, 2025. Meanwhile, Jonas Frederiksen, a faculty member on the producer program, is serving as acting rector until Hegnsvad’s tenure begins.
