Denmark’s Energy Agency rejects gas crisis fears
Despite not meeting the EU gas storage goal of 90% by November, Denmark’s Energy Agency director, Kristoffer Böttzauw, downplays the risk of a gas shortage this winter. With only 64.4% of Denmark’s gas storage filled by December, well below the EU directive, the director cites the country’s minor 1% contribution to the EU’s total capacity and existing over 80% EU-wide storage filling as reasons for security. Additionally, Denmark’s robust connections, the Tyra field’s expected full production post-new year, and substantial biogas production contribute to the agency’s confidence. LNG use and global market shifts, rather than low storage, explain price fluctuations. The agency reduced its gas crisis warning level in June and expects dropping prices with Tyra’s return to full production.
