Greenland leader’s Denmark visit postponed

The visit of Greenland’s government head, Chairman Múte Bourup Egede, to King Frederik of Denmark, scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed for reasons not yet made public, according to the royal house’s calendar. The royal house deferred to Greenland’s self-rule government for further details. Egede cited ‘calendar gymnastics’ for the postponement in a written response to Ritzau. This delay occurs at a time when there is heightened focus on Greenland’s self-rule, particularly after debates rekindled on independence following Egede’s New Year’s speech. Meanwhile, former US President Donald Trump expressed renewed interest in Greenland, while his son Donald Trump Jr. is currently en route to Greenland for a private visit, with no meetings announced with Greenland’s government. Tesla CEO Elon Musk, known for his close ties to the Trump administration, opined on social media X that Greenland’s population should determine their own future, hinting at a potential preference for becoming part of the US.
