Suspect jailed in Cyprus rape case

A 22-year-old man has been remanded in custody for two weeks until August 16 following his appearance at a preliminary hearing at the Court in Aarhus on Friday morning. He is suspected of having committed rape on Cyprus in 2022, as the police informed in a post on X. The man, who is Danish, appealed the decision to the High Court. He was internationally wanted by the Cypriot authorities and was arrested by Danish police on Thursday morning. The decision made on Friday was to retain the man until the court rules on his potential extradition to Cyprus. The High Court is now set to review his continued detention, while the date for deciding on extradition was not disclosed. At the hearing, the prosecution requested closed doors, with police otherwise not commenting further on the matter.
