Denmark supports probe into Gaza convoy tragedy
Denmark supports a ‘thorough and independent’ investigation into an incident in which a large number of Palestinians died near a humanitarian aid convoy in Gaza. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there are differing accounts of the events that led to the deaths of over 100 individuals as they gathered around aid trucks in northern Gaza. The health authorities in Hamas-controlled Gaza reported that Israeli forces killed over 100 people attempting to reach the convoy, while Israel claimed most deaths were due to congestion after warning shots were fired. Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen expressed deep shock and called for a detailed investigation, offering condolences to the victims’ families. The EU and the UN have also urged for an investigation. The Israeli military’s preliminary assessment pointed to the severe congestion as the cause of most Palestinian casualties.
