Artist to use dead pigs in exhibition
Artist Marco Evaristti plans to use dead animals in place of the live pigs that disappeared from his exhibition titled ‘And now you care.’ The exhibition aims to spotlight the conditions of pigs in Danish pork production, where the missing pigs were intended to starve to death as part of the exhibit. Faced with the disappearance of the pigs, Evaristti expresses his intent to continue with dead piglets displayed in a large transparent refrigerator, pressing them against the glass to replicate the daily treatment of such animals. Acquiring the piglets has proven challenging for Evaristti, who has rented the space in Kødbyen for an additional ten days. Shocked by the pigs’ disappearance, which he attributes to a volunteer conspiring with an organization, he maintains the exhibit’s message on animal welfare, despite understanding that his methods seem extreme to some.
