
Mette F. contacts EU leaders after Trump remarks
Following Donald Trump’s statements regarding Greenland, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen discussed with Greenland’s Premier, Múte B. Egede, and contacted various European leaders. Trump had suggested on Tuesday the possibility of using economic or military coercion to gain control over Greenland and the Panama Canal, and even considered imposing special tariffs on Danish goods if Denmark refused to sell Greenland to the U.S. Frederiksen reaffirmed on Wednesday that Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders, emphasizing that any decisions on Greenlandic independence would be made by those in Nuuk. European leaders, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and French President Emmanuel Macron, have also commented on Trump’s statements. Frederiksen’s Thursday is expected to be busy with meetings scheduled, including one with party leaders to discuss the situation regarding Greenland and the U.S.
