Coloplast accused of market abuse

The Danish Competition and Consumer Authority has ruled that Coloplast has abused its dominant position by charging competitors in the municipal stoma care market significantly higher prices compared to what was offered to the municipalities themselves. This made it extremely difficult for rival wholesalers to compete, leading some to give up. As a result, wholesales could not win contracts without offering Coloplast’s products, which make up more than half of the products used by Danish consumers. In 2019, Coloplast joined a consortium with Abena, and from 2020 to 2022, sold their products to municipalities at lower prices than charged to competitors. The Danish Competition and Consumer Authority intends to pursue a fine. Coloplast disagrees with the decision and has appealed. Coloplast’s CEO Martin Kiil asserts their commitment to competition law.
