Salling Group acquires complete ownership of Skagenfood

Salling Group has fully acquired Skagenfood by purchasing the remaining 10% from founders Betina Kühn and Peter Bagge-Nielsen, who started the company in 2001. Initially, in 2017, Salling Group acquired an 80% stake and bought an additional 10% two years later. The couple earned over 40 million DKK from the majority sale in 2017 and an extra 8 million DKK for the 2019 sale from their holding company, Kuba Holding. Despite the founders no longer being part of the ownership, they continue to lead the company, with Kühn as CEO and Bagge-Nielsen on the board. Salling Group operates various retail chains and franchises in Denmark. Skagenfood reported a profit of almost 4.5 million DKK in 2023, recovering from a loss in the previous year. The meal kit industry faced challenges in 2022, with Aarstiderne recording a nearly 35 million DKK loss, which was compared to the financial crisis years.
