Chemistry Nobel Prize
The 2023 Nobel Prize in Chemistry goes to Moungi Bawendi, Louis Brus and Alexei Ekimov, all of whom conduct research in the United States, the Swedish Academy of Sciences said. They have researched quantum dots, which are used, among other things, in modern LED TV screens, in solar panels and in medicine, where surgeons use them when removing tumors. Bawendi forsker ved Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Brus ved Columbia University og Ekimov ved Nanocrystals Technology. Through various experiments, the three laureates have each paved the way for the smallest components of nanotechnology – the quantum dots – to be applied practically. – This year’s prize in chemistry is about a fundamental discovery in nanotechnology, says Hans Ellegren, permanent secretary of the Academy of Sciences. /ritzau/TT
