Christianians want Pusher Street closed
Christianians are shocked and angry after a 30-year-old man was killed by gunfire at Pusher Street in Christiania on Saturday night. Several others were injured. This is according to spokesperson for Christiania’s press group Hulda Mader. “I don’t know what the outcome will be. But it is highly likely that now it will have to be closed, she says, referring to Pusher Street and the cannabis trade on the street. “We have talked to both the state and the municipality, and a process is underway. Now we hope that it can go faster, she says.
In August, a group of Christianians blocked Pusher Street. The blockade prompted Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard to announce that Christianians must unite against the gangs. They can too, Mader believes it could be possible, but the question is whether the residents can get the gangs completely off the streets and the lucrative cannabis trade. At the Lord Mayor’s office at Copenhagen City Hall, there is also a mood for closing Pusher Street.
“The violence and crime around Pusher Street have long since reached a level we cannot and will not put up with,” Lord Mayor Sophie Hæstorp Andersen said in a written comment to Berlingske. /ritzau/
