From European Commissioner in Brussels to Head of Government of Bulgaria. Mariya Gabriel seems to be succeeding in this somewhat unusual job change. She will be presented to the President of Bulgaria on Monday to obtain a mandate to form a government in Bulgaria. As a result she is stepping down as European Commissioner, according to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in a press release. “She has tendered her resignation as a member of the College of Commissioners. I have accepted her resignation,” von der Leyen said. The President of the European Commission thanked Gabriel for her work over three and a half years as Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth. “I wish Mariya Gabriel all the best. I am sure that her European experience, both in this and in the previous College of Commissioners, will be used for the benefit of the country,” von der Leyen said. /ritzau/
