Danish initiative aims to house displaced Ukrainian children
A coalition led by SOS Børnebyerne in Denmark is launching a project aimed at reforming child care placement in war-torn Ukraine. Named Children’s Living Places, it intends to create family-like care environments comprising clusters of buildings with individual homes for foster families and community spaces. The first foundation will be laid on November 1, with the complete functionality expected by the end of 2025 for the first location, and 2028 for the last of three sites. Between 54 and 72 children are expected to reside in these structures with their foster families. Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Julija Svyrydenko considers it one of Denmark’s largest humanitarian projects in Ukraine, with Private sector support deemed crucial for the country’s post-war recovery. The project aligns eco-friendly building design, with low carbon footprint, and social sustainability principles, contributing to Ukraine’s rebuilding effort.
