Gold coins and tobacco seized at Aalborg Airport
In February, customs officers in Aalborg Airport discovered two gold coins, 8.3 kg of hookah tobacco, and 1400 cigarettes in the possession of a traveler. The Customs Agency, in a press release, could not disclose the passenger’s origin or nationality. The man, unable to pay the fine of 50,000 Danish Kroner and duties of 25,000 Kroner, had these items confiscated. The gold coins had a purchase price of nearly 9,000 Kroner. Travelers from non-EU countries are allowed to bring 200 cigarettes or 250 grams of smoking tobacco duty-free. According to Jeppe Kjærgaard, control director at the Customs Agency, it is sometimes an intentional or accidental offense, but they do not distinguish. The majority of tobacco cases handled by the Customs Agency involve small quantities by private individuals.
