Trine Birk Andersen becomes chair in Region Zealand

Trine Birk Andersen (S) was elected as the new chair of the Regional Council of Region Zealand on Tuesday afternoon, succeeding Heino Knudsen (S), who announced his departure three weeks prior. Andersen was unanimously chosen by the council and had been previously indicated for the role by parties of the November 17, 2021, constituting agreement. Andersen, who has been a member of the Regional Council since 2018 and on the board of Danish Regions since 2022, is taking a leave from her job as a nurse. Upon announcement, she vowed to maintain a strong focus on the citizens from day one. The election comes shortly after a government proposal to merge Region Zealand and the Capital Region. Andersen emphasizes the importance of ensuring democratic representation for Region Zealand’s citizens. On the same day, Mette Touborg was named the new Regional Director, taking over from October 1.
