2000 e-bikes aim to replace cars in 10 municipalities
A project rolling out next week across ten suburban municipalities in Copenhagen aims to encourage citizens to switch from driving to taking trains or buses by offering 2000 shared electric bikes. The bikes can be rented through an app and available at 175 locations in the municipalities. The goal is to make it easier for residents to cycle to and from train stations instead of driving. Lars Gaardhøj, the regional council chair, emphasizes the need for increased public transport usage. Unlike Copenhagen and Frederiksberg, where e-bike rentals are prolific, suburbs lack such services, notes project manager Morten Heile Hass. Through the DOTT mobility app, with options for subscription or pay-per-ride, the project addresses the challenge of time-consuming transit changes. The Capital Region is investing 3.5 million DKK in the project set to run until the end of 2025, aiming to make public transport more attractive and reduce the temptation to buy a car.
