Stable unemployment figures in April

Preliminary figures from the Danish Authority for Labour Market and Recruitment indicate a minor decrease of 82 in the number of full-time unemployed during April, maintaining the steady unemployment rates seen at the start of 2024. Jeppe Juul Borre, Chief Economist at Arbejdernes Landsbank, notes that the trend of rising unemployment over the last year and a half has halted with a slight downward tendency in the past three months. Similar sentiments are shared by Las Olsen, Chief Economist at Danske Bank, who observes increasing employment and stable unemployment rates, with workforce influx, especially from abroad, balancing out new job hires. Sofie Holme Andersen, Chief Economist at the Danish Confederation of Trade Unions’ Economic Council, remarks the unemployment level has remained consistently low, with 17,000 fewer unemployed compared to pre-pandemic levels, despite the recent uptick before the current stabilization.
