Fifth MP exits the Moderates, only 12 remain
Danish MP Karin Liltorp has left the Moderates to sit as an independent. While she wishes the party well and doesn’t aim to topple the government, she feels she can better fight for her causes elsewhere. Her decision follows concerns about top-down leadership and minimal influence on employment reforms as the party’s spokesperson. This departure is the fifth from the Moderates, reducing their parliamentary count to 12. Following a workplace scandal last year, the party’s support has dwindled in polls. Group leader Henrik Frandsen is saddened by Liltorp’s exit but respects her intent not to undermine the government. The ruling coalition is down to 86 members and will soon drop to 85, making it dependent on alliances and mandates from Greenland and the Faroe Islands for a majority.
