Trump nominates Pam Bondi as next Attorney General

After Matt Gaetz withdrew his candidacy for U.S. Attorney General on Thursday evening, President-elect Donald Trump quickly announced Pam Bondi, former Attorney General of Florida, as his nomination. On Truth Social, Trump praised Bondi’s nearly two-decade prosecution track record, her crackdown on violent crime, and efforts against the lethal drug trade and fentanyl overdoses in Florida. Bondi, known as a Trump loyalist and part of his administration from 2017 to 2021, also tackled substance and opioid abuse issues. Unlike Gaetz’s contentious nomination, which faced Republican pushback due to allegations of sexual relations with a minor, Bondi’s pick is expected to stir less controversy. Before the appointment becomes official, she must be confirmed by the Senate.
