Confused mayors seek clear emergency response direction
Several Danish mayors, including Johannes Lundsfryd Jensen and Benedikte Kiær, have criticized the Danish Minister for Emergency Management, Torsten Schack Pedersen, for the lack of a crisis plan for municipalities, reports Jylland-Posten. This creates uncertainty among citizens due to the absence of guidance, they say. The absence of a unified plan could lead to uneven preparedness across municipalities during a crisis. Despite criticism, Schack Pedersen claims to have a “good dialogue” with municipalities and ministries. In April, Denmark’s municipalities were urged to strengthen emergency readiness, following a report indicating a severe risk landscape. However, more concrete guidelines were requested by Jensen to clarify responsibilities during crises, such as managing resources for vulnerable populations. Schack Pedersen declined an interview on this issue.
