New decision imminent in Nord Stream case

The Swedish prosecution authority expects to present a new decision on the investigation into the sabotage of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea on Wednesday. The case dates back to September 2022 when it was quickly determined that the damage to the pipelines was not natural and likely caused by sabotage. No suspects or defendants have been named in this mysterious case thus far. On Tuesday, German media outlets, including Die Zeit, reported that Swedish prosecutors plan to announce the halt of the investigation due to the inability to identify any potential perpetrators. This has not been confirmed nor commented on by the Swedish prosecution authority. Leaks occurred in both Denmark’s and Sweden’s exclusive economic zones in international waters, with Denmark having the right to dictate the investigators.
