37 Reported Dead in Israeli Raid on Rafah
Israel launched overnight attacks on the southern Gaza city of Rafah, resulting in 37 deaths and dozens injured, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society and local health officials. Earlier reports had counted 22 fatalities. The strikes, which hit homes and mosques, caused panic among residents. Israel’s military confirmed attacks in southern Gaza and later reported rescuing two hostages in Rafah. Concerns about a humanitarian crisis in Rafah have been raised by the EU and UN, with calls to protect civilians and warnings against forced displacements. Following remarks by President Biden about Israel’s actions being ‘excessive,’ he emphasized to Prime Minister Netanyahu the importance of ensuring the safety of Rafah’s refugees.
