The Alternative Party misses EU parliament seat
The Alternative Party failed to secure a mandate in Sunday’s EU Parliament elections, the only party to do so, with lead candidate Jan Kristoffersen taking responsibility for the defeat. Kristoffersen called the result ‘mega sad’ and wished for the party to have a voice in Europe. Receiving 2.7% of votes, the party is in a voting alliance with SF and The Social Democratic Party, meaning their votes are not wasted. The SF led the election with 17.4% followed by the Social Democrats with 15.6%. Kristoffersen confirmed the Alternative would return at the next election but likely with a different candidate. Official results for the 15 Danish mandates will be released on Monday.
