Maersk warned of Red Sea risks before attack
Maersk was alerted by the Naval Command to an increased risk of attacks in the Red Sea’s southern part and Bab el-Mandeb Strait on December 12, two days before one of its ships was targeted on December 14. The Danish ship, however, was not hit by the missile, and the crew was reported safe shortly after the incident. Reuters reported the Houthi movement, in control of large parts of northern Yemen, claimed responsibility for attacking the Maersk ship. Following the attack and another subsequent incident, Maersk temporarily paused its navigation through the Red Sea, rerouting its ships south of Africa.
