Apple delays AI features rollout in Europe

Apple has postponed the launch of its new artificial intelligence features in Europe due to ‘legislative uncertainties’ linked to the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA). The company believes it will not be able to deploy these features to its EU users this year. The AI technology, Apple Intelligence, was revealed two weeks ago and is expected to be incorporated into various operating systems for products like iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks. Previously, in early March, Apple was fined 1.8 billion euros by the EU for enforcing an App Store monopoly considered anti-competitive, impacting consumers and digital service providers. With the implementation of DMA aimed at regulating competition among digital platforms, the EU is now investigating potential violations by Apple and other tech giants. The DMA empowers the EU Commission to impose fines and require structural changes, with penalties potentially reaching up to 10% of a firm’s annual global turnover.
