Government teams up with ngo’s to protects EU’s kids from big tech
The Danish government, led by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, announced an alliance with child and youth organizations aimed at defending them against potentially harmful practices of tech giants, as per Politiken’s report. The alliance seeks to fight the addictive features and insufficient content moderation on platforms that prey on the young. Members include Save the Children Denmark, Børns Vilkår, and the Danish Youth Council, advocating a Europe-wide ban on targeted content and advertising to children. Strategies include safer content algorithms and pushing political initiatives throughout the EU and Nordic countries. The alliance, hosted by the Ministry of Industry, with contributions from the Ministries of Culture and Digitalisation, was described by Frederiksen as a non-partisan effort relevant to all of Danish society. Previously, she supported a proposal to increase the minimum age for social media access to 15 within the EU, enforced by age verification systems.
