PM to end Danish aid to Russian ‘shadow fleet’
The Danish prime minister Mette Frederiksen expressed astonishment upon learning that a shipyard in Fyn has serviced nine LNG ships that are part of Russia’s ‘shadow fleet’ since the invasion of Ukraine. This issue, brought to light by the Financial Times and previously reported by Danwatch and Ekstra Bladet, emerged as Frederiksen attended a NATO meeting in Finland. She cited the need for authorities to probe the matter and stressed Denmark’s, as well as companies’, obligation not to support Russia. The ships, owned by energy and shipping firms, are not directly sanctioned since they don’t sail under the Russian flag. Fayard, the involved company, insists it complies with EU and Danish sanctions. Odense’s mayor has demanded clarification from Odense Havn and relayed concerns to the transport minister. Fayard also services the Danish fleet, raising questions in parliament.
