Danish billion fund for defense boost

The Danish government is set to unveil a fund aimed at rapidly bolstering Denmark’s defense capabilities within the next few days, according to Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen speaking after a meeting in Paris. Sources informed the Danish Broadcasting Corporation (DR) that this ‘acceleration fund’ will amount to 50 billion kroner. The heightened urgency for reinforcement is in response to the real threat posed by Russia, as endorsed by recent intelligence assessments suggesting Russia’s potential for armed conflict with NATO countries or a major European war within five years. Additionally, Mette Frederiksen warned that an inadequate ceasefire in Ukraine could lead to an increase in the risk of further Russian aggression. The initial 25 billion kroner from the fund is set to be allocated this year, with the remainder allocated in 2026.
