Forced auctions hit record low since 2006

Denmark saw the lowest number of forced auctions in 2024 since 2006, with 1,376 recorded, including 124 in December. Despite higher costs for Danes and homeowners due to increased interest rates and prices, this has not led to more forced auctions, according to Brian Friis Helmer of Arbejdernes Landsbank. A strong job market with record-high employment and low unemployment, despite a minor increase, is credited. Allan Sørensen, chief economist at Dansk Industri, adds that a healthy housing market makes it easier to sell properties before resorting to forced auctions, which usually fetch significantly lower prices. The trend for fewer auctions is expected to continue into 2025, with decreasing interest rates, high employment, restored purchasing power, and an active housing market dissuading forced sales.
