43 nations demand probe into Navalny’s death

An international call spearheaded by the EU’s ambassador to the UN, Lotte Knudsen, demands an independent investigation into Alexei Navalny’s death, with 43 nations signing the appeal. These countries, including EU states, the USA, and the UK, condemn the suppression of Russian opposition and regard Navalny’s death as a symbol of such repression. Navalny died in a northern Russian penal colony at the age of 47, officially from natural causes according to the forensic report. However, his wife, Yulia Navalnaya, disputes this, accusing Putin’s regime of poisoning Navalny with Novichok. Navalny was serving politically contentious sentences totaling over 30 years. The signatories urge Russia to release all political prisoners, activists, and journalists.
