New Ilulissat airport delay hits again

The building of Ilulissat’s new airport in Greenland is now anticipated to open at the earliest in 2026, with delays caused by crew, machinery, and parts shortages, along with unexpectedly complex tasks. Jens Lauridsen, CEO of the company, expressed disappointment but recognized the challenges faced by Munck Gruppen in the construction process. This setback follows previous delays with the airport initially planned to be completed by 2024 and later 2025. The development was intended to be concurrent with Nuuk’s airport, set to inaugurate a new terminal before the summer holidays and a new runway by November. However, the simultaneous construction of both airports has been criticized, suggesting it would be more advantageous to leverage the experience gained from Nuuk before beginning the second project.
