Denmark monitors Russia-Estonia border incident

Denmark is closely following the situation involving Russia’s removal of buoys from the border between Estonia and Russia, as stated by Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen on social media. Russia conducted a pre-dawn operation to remove 25 buoys from the Narva River, which demarcates the border and prevents accidental entry into foreign waters. According to the Estonian government, tensions have risen in the border area since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, with disputes over water boundaries. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg expressed solidarity with Estonia after the incident. Additionally, Russia has shown increased interest in its northern borders, including demands to shift maritime boundaries with Finland in the Gulf of Finland and off Kaliningrad between Poland and Lithuania. Lithuania’s foreign ministry described the latter as a deliberate provocation. Finland and Norway have tightened border security in response to Russian activities.
