Danish navy tracks Chinese ship following cable damage
A Chinese vessel named ‘Yi Peng 3’ has been closely monitored by the Danish navy since Tuesday, currently stationary in the Kattegat. The vessel had set sail from Ust-Luga, Russia, five days prior and traveled close to two data cables later found damaged. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has described the cable damages as sabotage. Denmark’s defense has not commented on the ship but routinely monitors vessels in Danish waters, according to press advisor Henrik Hall Mortensen. Meanwhile, Sweden is investigating the broken cables suspecting sabotage. Sweden’s maritime forces were dispatched to examine the damaged cables, with press officer Jimmie Adamsson stating they will provide underwater expertise. The compromised cables include a data link between Gotland and Lithuania and a cable spanning over 1000 kilometers between Helsinki and Rostock.
